Jason Hoff :: Creative Director & Writer

About

Writing.
Conceptual thinking.

Campaigns. Films. Sites. Lines.

I’m an independent creative director, leader, and writer with over 20 years of practice.

For the last two years or so, I’ve mostly helped make films and lead projects at Airbnb. Before that I spent the better part of 7 years on staff at Apple on the esteemed iPhone brand team, making work for somewhere in the vicinity of 6 iPhones, give or take a year. As well as iPad, Apple Card, Apple Environment, and more. I shot spots, product films, reveal films, social campaigns, and wrote keynotes in collaboration with the people that tend to deliver those same keynotes on stage.

Before all that, I learned the ropes as a creative director in New York at R/GA, BBDO, Grey, Cliff Freeman, and contract CD at Google Creative Lab.

Way back in 2002, I wrote the original line and campaign “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” for the city of Las Vegas with a former partner, at agency R&R Partners. It’s one of the most famous ad lines in history. I no longer keep track of where it shows up in culture. We celebrated a 20th anniversary with a television interview, and have a chapter in James Patterson’s 2024 book, titled ‘What Really Happens in Vegas.’

This past year I was honored at the University of Colorado commencement speech alongside Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, South Park creators Trey Parker & Matt Stone, and jazz legend Glenn Miller, for cementing my place in Buffs history with the Vegas tagline.

I make work for the craft, not the awards. But I do have hardware in a storage closet. Cannes, One Show, D&AD, AICP, Andys, Clios, Communication Arts, Webby’s, Tomorrow Awards, FWA, Creative Review, SXSW, London International Awards. My work is etched on the sidewalk on New York’s Advertising Walk of Fame on Madison Ave.

I also mess around with Future Moves, a small clothing brand inspired by Earth and all things good for Earth.
